Do you ever look in the mirror and say to yourself “who are you?”. I remember doing this a lot when I was in my teens but not much since. We are what we have become like it or not through our thoughts, beliefs and actions up until this point. Not many of us really think deeply about our beliefs, even though they are essential to our well being. Belief is the most powerful state of mind because your belief system defines and moulds who you are and determines your potential.
Your belief system doesn’t judge or criticize, it simply accepts as truth what you tell it. That is a powerful concept that Henry Ford agreed with when he said “Whether you think you can or think you can’t – you are right.” Beliefs have a direct impact on our self improvement and motivation. Put simply we can have positive beliefs and negative beliefs. A positive belief can set a target such as to lose weight by diet and exercise. A negative belief will lead to negative behavior, such as if you have always been told by your parents you’ll never get a job and you believe them, you won’t get a job, you’ll squander your time and subconsciously prove them right BUT if you tell yourself they are wrong and that you will get a job, your actions will be motivated and geared to finding a job. Your belief system is such a powerful tool. We need to be alert to the possibilities of belief and self talk.
Okay we all have doubts – whether you can do that job, whether you’ll be able to give that presentation, whether you can pass your driving test – and these doubts are okay in small doses, they remind us we have to take action to succeed, whether it be polish up our interview skills, be prepared for the presentation or know the Highway code. Some people think of these doubts as a little devil sat on our shoulder always dismissing what we do, always putting us down. The problem begins if you cannot see past this inner doubt. You have to get the balance right between inner doubt and inner confidence.
Your inner confidence is the voice you need to listen to and pay attention to. It is the voice of inspiration, courage and support and powers our self improvement and motivation. It can make your life change into a vibrant, glowing, growing success. Successful people have inner confidence. They have this supportive inner voice encouraging them on to success even when the inner doubt (or little devil) tries to raise his voice and tells you, you can’t do it. “You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them”. ~Michael Jordan Basketball player
Think about yourself and whose voice is the loudest in your head. Is it the inner voice of confidence or the inner voice of doubt? You are in control and can change the balance. Remember what we have been saying throughout this article, ”Your belief system doesn’t judge or criticize, it simply accepts as truth what you tell it”. So tell it something good about yourself!
Change the balance in your head to be in favour of your self improvement and motivation. Banish any negative thoughts of defeat and failure. You are where you are today because of your journey so far in life. Life is constantly changing and developing. You can change and develop too. Change your thoughts to reflect who you want to become don’t just be the person are because of what you’ve thought of yourself so far. Get rid of any negative beliefs you’ve carried with you for years. Unburden yourself now. Be positive, think positive thoughts. It’s your time to stop making excuses, give the power to your inner voice of confidence and start enjoying life and getting what you want out of life.
